My training as a trauma informed, evidence-based therapist comes through a Master’s Degree in Clinical Counselling. In addition to over twenty years in various helping professions, I also hold a second Master’s Degree in Community Economic Development. Through my roles as a youth worker and also as a case manager at the Children’s Aid Society (now “Family Connexions”) I had many opportunities to engage in counselling relationships with children, youth and families. While I found satisfaction in that aspect of those jobs, I came to realize that as a counselor I often lacked the expertise needed to address many of the concerns before me. So I decided to take the step to go back to school to gain knowledge and experience as a psychotherapist. With a Master’s level training and education, plus twenty years of field experience I feel prepared to come alongside you as you work to reorient your life in a more healthy direction.
My faith inspires me to do this work. Some people want to engage in therapy from a spiritual perspective. While I never impose my beliefs onto another person, for those whose relationship with Creator forms an important part of their life, I am happy to bring the spiritual and/or the Bible into therapy.
While I bring some training and experience in the area of therapy and counselling, you are the expert on your life. Therapy is a collaborative process in which your experiences (both positive and negative) and strengths combine with the skills I have learned to move you towards becoming the person you were meant to be.
As a therapist I am constantly looking for ways to grow. The interactions I have with my clients consistently surprise, challenge and push me in new and interesting directions. I look forward to continuing this journey with you.
